Holiday PURCHASINGS

It's the time of the year to make plans to wrap something and then hand it on over!

The year 2010 has been an interesting one for yeti. It's the year you could look around and see quite a number of random non-yeti things being named "Yeti", all of them hoping to piggy-back on the Abominable Snowman's super-fame. There was a portable ice chest, a microphone, hiking boots, an open source project to provide YUI testing from the command line. You name it, it was named "Yeti". A few months ago, I did a whole post about the phenomenon.

It was really the fashion world though (led by Chanel) that most embraced the yeti this year by releasing a line of weird furry clothing. The boots in particular resembled the Himalayan Hominid's hoofs so much, everyone called them Yeti Boots.

So this Gift-Purveying Season, should you get the yeti lover in your life something named "Yeti" that doesn't actually have anything to do with yeti?

Probably not. Unless they, like, need the thing.

Should you get him/her a facsimile of the hirsute lower appendages of the Monstrous Man-Beast as a fashionable accessory suitable for the run-way?

Nah.

So what do you do? Fear not, for every year, I give my accurate opinion of the best bets in yeti related wares. You see, I have done such a thing for so many years in a running now, I am what I call a "so-called expert". Look at these other times:

- 2009
- 2008
- 2007 part 1 and part 2
- 2006
- 2005

And now for 2010, I present MY THIS YEAR'S GIFTING GUIDE:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Headline: A TOP YETI CAN NOW BE PROCURED BY INDIVIDUAL BUYERS
I previously blogged about the elusive Vuduberi Yeti, which was one of my favorites of the whole year. It totally sold out at San Diego Comic-Con. Recently, however, they've made a few more and now a person can actually get one at their Etsy shop!
THIS IS BIG.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Headline: THE YETI HAT IS ALL THE RAGE

Yeti's always being put on T-shirts, but lately the HAT is where it is AT.

There's this particular hat, of course, but the big one at the top of everyone's head right now is Knitwits' Yeti Hat. It is widely available in both the brick-and-mortar and click-and-order shops (btw, I can't be the first person to think of "click-and-order", can I?).

Look at this gallery of famous people wearing the knitwits hat. Astounding.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Headline: BUY A BUILD-A-BUMBLE
If you want to go "old school" and honor the Revered Progenitor of Modern Yeti, BUMBLE himself, as the content of your holiday present, this is still a great year to do it. LOTSA Bumble merchandise is being produced at a comfortable rate for your continued consumption.
I am recommending the Bumble as a plush Build-a-Bear, a steal for $20.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Headline: INDY COMIC MAKES GOOD STOCKING STUFFER

For the comic book lover in your life, try Jeff McClelland's Teddy and the Yeti. You can buy the first three issues here, and the fourth is on its way.

Neat trivia: The titular yeti is female!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Headline: ZOMBIES + YETIS = THE TRUE MEANING OF THE HOLIDAY(S)
Zombie Yeti by Alexz! Can't be beat.
Cuteness so intense may add three years to the beginning of your life. Try it!
Se also her non-zombied yeti and bigfoot plushes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Headline: ARBOREAL ORNAMENTATION FOR GOOD CAUSE

Be unto like a reformed, post-adventure Ebeneezer Scrooge and donate $25 via Paypal at this link (or send check/money order) to the International Cryptozoology Museum, and you can receive a glass yeti ornament as a "thank you" gift.

Win-Win. And maybe even a third Win?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'Tis All I Have, my devoted Readers.
Now go forth and have a Successful Buying of Things for Other People.
