I haven't been to the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland Maine but I did the next best thing:
I sent my dad.
He loved it. Plus, he got to meet Loren Coleman.
Papa was particularly impressed with the footprint casts from fellow San Antonian Tom Slick's 1957-1959 expeditions.

Monsters University Yeti
A couple of weeks back, I posted about the Monsters, Inc. Yeti, and I made a big fuss about how the Abominable Snowman wasn't going to be appearing in the sequel Monsters University and boo hoo hoo and shame on Pixar and cry baby cry, make your mother sigh.
Turns out I WAS WRONG.
Well, misinformed anyway.
Here are a couple of stills from the new film taken by an amateur photographer. Just because it's blurry doesn't mean it's not real.
In my original post, I wrote:
Well, it turns out Pixar seized on this opportunity. They have the Yeti working in mail room as a mail sorter at the Monsters, Inc. factory. There is an implication that he was banished to the Himalayas for messing up at his job.

"This is also a great opportunity to explain why Yeti was banished to the Himalayas - a big mystery in the original film."

Thank you, Pixar!

Lego Yeti 1
One of my best agents, who goes by the code-name "The Fisherman of the Inland Sea", aka FOTIS, aka Fishie, aka McFish-Fish, aka Meester Feesh, aka Filsh, has this choice catch to share.
FOTIS is a personal eye-witness to this Yeti. I told him it was indisputable proof.
Metoh-Kangmi lives!
Thanks, Meester Feeeeesh!

Light Yeti

New Yeti City, a drawing in anticipation of the SCBWI 2011 NY conference by Kelly Light
Further evidence that people immediately associate yeti with enduring very cold environments.
Also, new recurring trend I've noticed: people want to ride yetis. See new label for examples.

Say it isn't so
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"We may love the yeti and its promise of wildness, its symbolism of high remote arĂȘtes... but these emotions that may be fulminating and genuine do not by their intensity and strength change the weak and simple truth."
-- Lawrence W. Swan, Tales of the Himalaya: Adventures of a Naturalist
And what is the "Weak and Simple Truth"?
It's this:
Yeti = Mountain Fox with Peculiar Hopping Gait
You see, the vulpine footprints resemble those of a biped.
YETI has been FOUND!
And it was the incomparable Loren Coleman who helped secure the photographic proof!
The Picnic Holiday Sale in Portland Maine on December 12th can also take some credit:
"Shoppers and their little ones can also get their photo taken with the Yeti."Note: Further evidence that Yeti = Holiday Icon.
Making an exception!
Many readers are aware that this blog is exclusively devoted to the yeti and not his brown-furred forest-dwelling cousins, the sasquatch and the bigfoot.
There's nothing wrong with the sasquatch or the bigfoot; they're just not what this blog is about.
I am making an exception today. Yes, today (and tomorrow, maybe) I extend my love beyond the yeti into the family gigantopitheci.
I love you, sasquatch (for the next 24-48 hours).
Check out this patch:
I don't really understand the back story, but you can purchase merchandise with this fellow's fetching patch design (as seen above).
Coincidentally, October 20th, 2007 (which is either today, tomorrow, or some point in the distant past) is the fortieth anniversary of the famous Patterson-Gimlin footage which depicts "Patty" the sasquatch:
One of my heroes, Loren Coleman, commemorated the occasion on his blog, suggesting we take a step back and try and imagine the film when it first appeared 40 years ago. Try it!
Video Footage of Yeti in Action?
This is supposedly a video clip depicting yeti somewhere in the Himalayas:
Yeti seems to be having a lot of difficulty getting through the snow.
If the film is real, Yeti must have amazing thighs. Forget Stairmaster. Yeti is the Snowmaster.
I am going to go out on a limb here and label this in the Not Yeti category.
It all comes down to the toes
What I learned today from this NPR Talk of the Nation about the Sasquatch:
- The yeti is very different in stature and behavior to the bigfoot.
- There is very little evidence of yeti footprints.
- But this is what we know: the yeti has a divergent big toe - like those possessed by a large chimpanzee.
- The bigfoot differs, however. It has feet with the big toe aligned with the remaining digits.
* My conclusion: The yeti is a giant chimp.
* The bigfoot? Obviously some kind of weirdo.
bearing the overpowering burden of proof
What more evidence does one need?
It's high time we as a culture started to accept the belief that Yeti is out there and that he's living a life that you and I are probably jealous of.
Let's just go out there and start believing in the Yeti for once, okay People?
Even Tintin met one of them:
In other Yeti News, It has come to my attention (thanks to Edward and Marla Tackey) that there are Yetis in the popular British sci-fi television programme "Doctor Who".
They apparently look like this on the show:
What the..!?
In the episode "Web of Fear", it looks like a Yeti is shooting ray beams out of its eyes.
Say WHAAAA?!?
Personally I prefer the more traditional representation of a yeti:
