People LOVE that guy.
So right off the bat, yeti has been associated with Christmas.
In 1970, Rankin-Bass made another stop-motion Christmas special, Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town., and it featured another yeti:

It's actually Winter Warlock, who is an evil wizard, if that wasn't obvious from his name.
He was very grouchy and mean, with an evil, icy heart.
But when he's given a present (a toy choo-choo train), his heart is melted and he becomes a sweet, gentle, friendly sort-of person.
SOUND FAMILIAR?
He's just a yeti with robes and a hat (and a crystal ball).
