Yeti Loves Ice Spikes Growing Out of His Skin, Apparently

What does that even mean, having ice spikes grow out of the skin?   Biologically speaking, I mean.

Is one's skeleton made of ice too?

I wonder if Frozen's Marshmallow is partly an inspiration for this trend.

Or maybe it comes from Star Trek's Mugato, the original spike-backed ape-beast:

Or Doomsday?

Oh also Ice-Hulk.

I mean, it's not totally brand new. Spikes have been growing out of yeti's back for a while now - as you can see: here, here, here, here, here, here (Winx Club), & in last year's Lara Croft game.

But there seems to be a definite spike in popularity.  Without further ado, here are a bunch more examples I found that stuck out at me:

For Thanksgiving, I traditionally switch gears and post pictures of snow trolls.

 It's my thang. Call it "Thangsgiving." I don't, but you can; it's a free country. And we Americans are all thankful for it. Whoop.

This year I saw the film Trollhunter (2010).

If you like Snow Trolls, wait 'til you get to the end.

Hands down, BEST SNOW TROLL SEQUENCE since the Dawn of Time (when the Great Lord actually made the very best ever snow troll sequence, but chose (in His great mysterious wisdom) never to show it to Adam/Eve nor any of their descendents).
