Kids Cartoon: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

"The Ancient One" is the 92nd episode of the animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003), which originally aired on December 10, 2005.

Leonardo goes to Japan, traveling on foot through the snowy mountains, seeking a new sensei known as "the Ancient One".

Wow, that sounds very very familiar.

On his quest, he comes across two gigantic yeti warriors that bar his way with their huge swords.
"The yetis demand to know what the Turtle seeks. Leonardo informs [them] that that he's come to see the Ancient One. The two guards laugh and begin to mock the young ninja. Leo grows angry and draws his katanas, growling that he hasn't come all this way to turn back now. The ninja attacks, but his efforts are futile against the giants' armor. The giants start to tease Leo even more until he finally snaps and lets out a mighty howl of rage. The guards easily defeat Leonardo and throw him into a snow-filled ditch, where the Turtle lies prone in defeat.  Surprisingly, the yeti guard lifts the Turtle to his feet. The warriors tell Leonardo that this lesson was to teach him to never go into combat with an angry heart. With that, the pair explain how Leonardo will find the path to the Ancient One and send him on his way.  Leo continues on, following the giants' instructions."

Yeti Arcade: Mega Man Star Force 2

Mega Man Star Force 2 (2007) was for the Nintendo DS.  This armored Yeti boss was named Yeti Blizzard.

Please don't confuse him with the Yeti named Blizzard from the video game Primal Rage, who is probably my favorite Video Game Yeti of All Time.

That makes me think I should do a Top 10 of the best Video Game Yetis of All Time. Hmmm...

Yetis and Coke

BIG NEWS!

This commercial aired during the Super Bowl.

Apparently, in a fantasy world, there is a community of yeti that wear clothing. They have Coke. And they use it very effectively for defense.

Thanks, Valanga!

Not Yeti Friday - Gygor

I've posted about a couple of grotesques from the He-Man universe before: Grizzlor and Stratos.

But not GYGOR!

And there's a reason. He didn't actually exist until now.

Just this week the action figure for Gygor came out for you to BUY!

Yanked from Plastic & Plush

Gygor is so HUGE and so YELLOW that you will have to fork out quite a bit of moolah for this exclusive Action Figure of an Action Gorilla. Look at that axe! Is that obsidian?

Here's his packaging:

Note carefully his description: "Evil Fighting Gorilla"

Incidentally, this is all anyone knows about him. Just that he's evil and that he's fighting. And obviously, he's bright yellow. And also, he's yellowing. This, one has to presume.

I mean, look at him. It's not hard to imagine he was originally green and is now starting to ripen. Like a banana. Could he actually be a BANANIMAL (of Fabled Olde)?! I will leave further conjecture & debate on this matter to the esteemed voices in my head. One of them is a professor.

So Gygor was never actually a figure in the 1980's. They just made a prototype back then:

He has been improved.

FYI, there is a little blurb on the back of the new figure's packaging:

Shortly after the Great Unrest, Keldor was driven behind the Mystic Wall and Gygor, Lord of the Vine Jungle, led an army of beast men in a series of raids against the long forgotten Castle Greyskull, believing the many tales of its great and mysterious power. It was only through the combined powers of Oo-larr the jungle He-Man and The Goddess that Gygor was defeated and placed in a state of suspended animation. Eventually, Hordak returned to Eternia and the savage gorilla was freed by Evil-Lyn in her attempt to bolster Skeletor's forces agains the new Horde army. Gygor use his great strength to fight the Heroic Warriors.
Here's the thing: No one has any idea what any of this means. Like, "Oo-larr the jungle He-Man"? No one has ever heard of him.

Gygor, You enygma, you!

Anyway, current He-Man fans were excited to draw up artistic depictions of Gygor, who, you have to admit, kinda takes the cake being a giant yellow armored gorilla:

2-Bad fan art from the He-Man.org message board

MechaShiva fan art from Poe Ghostal's

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome, Gygor, to the world. You've made it, baby. Don't ripen too fast and turn brown. And become inedible. Also, don't peel. People might trip on you for comedic effect. No one wants that. Also, it might be considered ironic. You being a big monkey and all. Maybe they should have called you Evil Fighting Monkey-Banana.
Stay Fighting.
Going back to the basics
concept dump 02 by ~thevampiredio on deviantART
It's good to get a yeti with some armor, wielding a stave. Always a classic.
I like that his weapon is a stick with some rocks wedged into it.
Note that this yeti has horns... only he happens to be wearing them!
Not Yeti Friday - Snow Goblin
Is this a yeti wearing armor wielding a stave???
~~~~~~~~~~~~

NO! It's a Snow Goblin.

From "The Dungeons and/or The Dragons"!!

I am happy to educate.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
(But seriously, if you took that armor off - made him naked, removed his stave & shield, threw him in a cave maybe, he'd be like a little yeti, right? I mean, let's just face facts. No use denying.)
Not Yeti Friday - Karmans
The Karmans are a faction in AT-43, the table-top miniature war-game notable for its minis arriving pre-assembled/pre-painted with interchangeable parts.
This alien race resembles white gorillas and likes to wear big armored battle-suits. Their society is focused around the concepts of karmic debt, environmental awareness and a warrior ethos. They're sort of like New Age Klingons.
Interestingly, the Karmans have chosen the names Yeti and Wendigo for some of their infantry groups. This either means they are self-aware of their resemblance to these presumably now ancient folkloric entities - or it's just what the human factions call 'em.
I really don't think it gets that much better than yeti in armored battle-suits wearing goggles and aviator caps. And just knowing they're obsessed with karmic debt takes it over the top.
If any of you all can beat this with something else, I'd like to see it.
Wonder Woman vs. Yeti?
This picture for Wonder Woman # 14 was floating around the 'Nets, and I got my hopes up that the Amazing Amazon was battling a whole army of Yeti!
But then I looked into it, and it appears the above depicts Wonder Woman actually battling enhanced gorilla youths from Gorilla City.
In fact, the picture may have just been a conceptual painting, and it was later decided the youths shouldn't be naked and colored in blues and whites (very yeti-ish), but clothed in futuristic armor with warm brownish gray shading instead. Here's the more recent cover design:
And from what I can tell from panels inside the comic, there are no white-haired, naked yetis in the story, just grayish-brown, armored gorilla youths from Gorilla City, albeit enhanced gorilla youths.
Ah well. One day we'll see that match-up. And it will be the showdown of showdowns.
Not Yeti Friday - Druid: Werebear & Warden Archon
A person called ShadowButcher has compiled an archive of concept art from the PC game, Diablo II.
The above image of of a "Druid: Werebear".
Turns out the designers didn't run with this particular concept art, making their were-bears in the actual game look decidedly un-yeti-ish. Thusly, I proclaim it NOT YETI.
I found a guide online that explains how to make a druid character in Diablo II that can turn into a were-bear. Proud of me?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Book of Exalted Deeds is a D&D guide to things that are good (...good as in the alignment - as in NOT EVIL).

The book introduces the "Warden Archon", depicted above by Mark Nelson. It looks like an armored were-bear. Or possibly an armored yeti if you squint your eyes. It is apparently a very good and very powerful creature that guards things.

Verdict: NOT YETI.

I have done my service to my country today.

Note: I tried looking for more images of were-bears, but one on such a quest gets quickly into Furry territory, and no offense to Furries, but that's just not my thing.

Clubs = Staves

Unknown Russian artist paints armored yeti weilding a club.

I'm putting this under the "Staves" label. A club is essentially a stave. Wikipedia agrees.
