Kids Cartoon: Scooby-Doo Cartoon Roll-call

Yeti has made an appearance in most iterations of the venerable animated cartoon - a full SEVEN times. In 2018, an animated big screen reboot of Scooby Doo is coming called S.C.O.O.B. Will it too feature the Aboominable Snoowman?  Here's hooping.

Scooby Doo's greatest contribution to popular culture is the trope known as the Scooby Doo Hoax:

"The supposed supernatural activity or monster activity is nothing but an elaborate hoax taking advantage of local lore to frighten off the curious from discovering and interfering with their main criminal activity."

In stories like Scooby Doo, Yeti is often unmasked as a fake.

Starting with the most recent, let's go back in time and run down the Yeti's every run-in with Mystery Inc. and showcase just how fake fake fake fake fake fake a fake faking faker he actually is.   Fake!

Be Cool, Scooby Doo!

Episode: "Kitchen Frightmare" Aired October 21, 2015.

Umm, this looks a bit too much like Harold from the Disneyland Matterhorn ride.

Spoilers: Jeff Howard lived above the kitchen of Cheese Volcano, a cheese-themed restaurant, and the noise kept him awake at night, so he wanted to shut it down.  Dressing up as a yeti and scaring everyone was his solution.

Verdict: FAKE!

Chill Out, Scooby-Doo!

A stand-alone movie.  Blogged before.  Aired August 31, 2007

Spoilers: Minga had feelings for a guy and didn't want him to stop broadcasting his radio show.  Dressing up as a yeti and scaring everyone was her solution.

Verdict: FAKE!

What's New, Scooby-Doo?

Episode: "There's No Creature Like Snow Creature" Aired September 14, 2002.

Avalanche Anderson wanted to regain his fame at a snowboarding competition.  Using a remote-controlled, mechanical yeti and scaring everyone was his solution.

Verdict: FAKE!

The Scooby-Doo Show

Episode: "A Scary Night with a Snow Beast Fright" Blogged before. Aired: September 23, 1978

Spoilers: Jean Pierre Baptiste wanted to cover his tracks when he discovered oil. Dressing up as a yeti (robot dinosaur?) and scaring everyone was his solution.

Verdict: FAKE!

The New Scooby-Doo Movies

Episode: "The Ghost of Bigfoot" Aired November 11, 1972.

Spoilers: Jonathan Crabtree ran an operation of stealing, repainting, and selling stolen cars with real plates and need to scare people away so he could run his operation without being discovered. Dressing up as a yeti and scaring everyone was his solution.

Verdict: FAKE!

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Episode: "That's Snow Ghost" Aired: January 17, 1970. Blogged before and before.

Spoilers: Mr. Greenway wanted to scare people away from his smuggling operation.  Dressing up as a yeti and scaring everyone was his solution.

Verdict: FAKE!

So this is interesting: Mr. Greenway made himself out as a flying yeti...

Comic

I guess he did so in order to up the freaky, supernatural factor. And to be a little more ghost-like, maybe?

But how the heck did he pull the flying off?

The solution according to the show is that Mr. Greenway used plastic, transparent skis to fly across the sky.

Hmm...

Personally, I'm skeptical.  I think the visual evidence doesn't support this.

OK, this is what I would expect from transparent skis, sure:

But this?! :

Something just doesn't add up.  The Mystery Gang should have dug a little deeper.

Happy Father's Day to the Silver Surfer, the Father of Yeti

Today I want to wish the Silver Surfer a Happy Father's Day. Here's why...

The Defenders were a Marvel superhero team consisting of Doctor Strange, Hulk, Namor (Submariner), the Silver Surfer, and Valkyrie.

In the second issue of the series (October 1972, The Defenders, Vol 1 #2 - "The Search for the Silver Surfer!"), Silver Surfer hadn't yet joined the group and was suspected of being a villain. In the first issue, he seemed to be acting as accomplice to an evil necromancer.

As part of their adventure, the team (sans Surfer) stumble into a Himalayan valley filled with yetis (of the brown variety). And a fight ensues.

(Thanks to blogger Patrick D Gaertner for posting about this issue and sharing these images.)

During the fight, the Silver Surfer suddenly appears to defend the "harmless" yetis, proclaiming them his children.

Namor bull-rushes the Silver Surfer as he wishes him a Happy Father's Day - the ultimate retort.

The Incredible Hulk fights and insults the yeti, as he is wont to do (see here, here, here, and here (wish list # 6, please)), when he's not dressing up as one.

I'll let Gaertner comment:
"Words cannot describe how much I love this scene. It just gets better and better. Silver Surfer appearing and claiming that the crazy yetis that Hulk has been beating up are his children is good enough. But then Namor just immediately socks him in the face and yells “Well Happy Father’s Day.” It’s just beautiful."

Namor and Silver Surfer do stop fighting long enough to have a conversation.  Namor asks him what's up with his whole "being in league with an evil necromancer" thing. Surfer claims innocence. Turns out he has been devoting his life for many years to fostering and teaching this tribe of simple-minded yetis.

That's right, folks. The Silver Surfer is a dedicated father of a flurry of yetis.

Wait - could these be the same yetis that Surfer encountered in Issue # 1 of Silver Surfer (1968)?  They were white-furred then, and Surfer vowed to leave that "place of madness",  so I'm not sure what happened in 4 years. Did he go back? Plus, weren't they supposed to be living in another dimension, not the Himalayas?

It's a mystery.

Anyway, here's the craziest part of the Defenders' story: the Silver Surfer's children (i.e. the yetis) suddenly reveal themselves to be evil warlocks in disguise.  This whole time they had been pretending to be his yeti kids so they could gain his trust and control his mind. They got him to mess with Namor for an evil necromancer's plot. Their leader's name is Calizuma and his minions are called the "Warrior Wizards".

The Defenders be all like "nuh uh" and, now united with a vengeful Silver Surfer, team up to soundly beat the warlocks. And thus the Silver Surfer is recruited into the Defenders.

And that's the end of that.

So I second Namor's sentiment to the Silver Surfer, and this time without sarcasm.  If you did indeed devote your life to being the father of a tribe of yetis, teaching them and fostering them, only to be horrifically betrayed by them as they unveiled themselves to be your mind-controlling warrior wizard masters in yeti disguises all along... then I salute you on this day.

I want to wish you a most:

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, SILVER SURFER.

You deserve it.

Today is the day...

...that Santa traditionally fights the Yeti.

You know how it starts... at first, they're friends.  Just hangin' out.

Source

Yeti bakes Santa some cookies. It's nice.

Source

Heck, they might even do a little jig.

Source
But then Yeti grabs Santa's scarf, or something.

Source
Or Santa starts using Yeti to transport his sled cross-country.
Source

And then it's all over... it's an all out war:

Yeti beasts out...
Note to self: Please add "RRAAAGGHHH!" to the E.Y.H.E.S. page.

Santa brandishes a battle axe...

Source
The situation deteriorates; you need someone like Deadpool just to break it up.

(Hey, wait a second! It's not even 2016 and Santa already delivers on one of his wishes!?! (#7 on the 2016 Wish List is Deadpool vs. Yeti) It's a Christmas miracle!

That this happens each year, every time, on this day.... Pathetic.

Can't we just get along?!

This is what I want to see:
