What does that even mean, having ice spikes grow out of the skin? Biologically speaking, I mean.
Is one's skeleton made of ice too?
I wonder if Frozen's Marshmallow is partly an inspiration for this trend.
Or maybe it comes from Star Trek's Mugato, the original spike-backed ape-beast:
Or Doomsday?
Oh also Ice-Hulk.
I mean, it's not totally brand new. Spikes have been growing out of yeti's back for a while now - as you can see: here, here, here, here, here, here (Winx Club), & in last year's Lara Croft game.
But there seems to be a definite spike in popularity. Without further ado, here are a bunch more examples I found that stuck out at me:
