Baku is a supernatural creature from Chinese/Japanese folklore that eats dreams and nightmares.
He's sort of a tusked tapir and sometimes has other animal characteristics, too.
Graven images of Baku were carved and placed in shrines to ward against evil.
To this day, Japanese children are given a stuffed animal of Baku to help them sleep. Baku-shaped pillows are readily available.
Just had a nightmare? If you're Japanese, say aloud afterwards: “Baku, eat my dreams.” Problem solved.
Okay so I kinda got a little carried away with the Baku depictions. I just like the guy, I guess. Enjoy...
Pleasant dreams!
(thanks, Baku *wink*)
