Škoda Yetis

I've blogged before about the Škoda SUV called the Yeti and how much they want to push the whole "yeti" association.

I recently discovered they are pushing it even further.

Firstly, they have this loony cartoony website which features all these different yeti characters.

And it even has a game you can play, where you play a yeti skiing behind an SUV, attempting to pick up ice cream cones:

~~~~~~~~~~
Secondly, if you buy the SUV, you have a choice of accessories, such as car seats, specially-fitting panels, etc. AND ONE OF THE ACCESSORIES YOU CAN CHOOSE IS: a plush yeti.
It's right there in the catalog, labeled "Cuddly Yeti Toy."
Here are some pictures of the Škoda yeti plush out in the wild:
The company is really embracing the yeti-ness of their name. That just further proves how popular yetis are in the mainstream. Yetis are so cool they help sell SUVs.
More Yeti Sightings at NYCC
Last week I reported on sightings of a Yeti at the New York Comic Con.
There have been more!
From here
Face off! From here
Even Jeff McClelland of Teddy and the Yeti fame (who was at the con as previously noted) had a run-in.
Apparently it was a feller INCOGNITO. Sources indicate he was promoting some kind of cable show at a specific booth at the con. Hence, the fuzzy duds. Does anyone know what show he was promoting?
UPDATE: Jeff McClelland himself writes in with the scoop:
"I've discovered the mystery of the Comic Con Yeti. He was part of a promotion for the show "Lost Tapes" airing on the Animal Planet channel. Here's a link.
I guess they got tired of having shows with actual animals, and decided to use fake ones now."
Mays Yeti
Silent Orchid, aka Lindsay Mays, made the previously blogged about Jampa the Yeti.
Now it's Halloween, and Mays has created a set of Halloween Plushes, and guess what? The Abominable Snowman is a Halloween MONSTER!
Fuzzy little Abominable Snowman plush currently available in her Etsy shop.
When you think Halloween, THINK YETI.
Who were you, mysterious yeti-disguised person?
You are owed a boat of gratitude.
Yes, a boat. An actual boat. A boat called The Gratitude.
Somebody get this person a very specifically christened boat!!
Beatles vs. Yeti
It's John Lennon's 70th Birthday.
Both the Beatles and the Abominable Snowman were big Sixties phenomena. So it's no surprise they crossed paths once or twice. Here are two instances I found:
1) In 1964, the Beatles performed "Another Beatles Christmas Show" live at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. In one sketch, they pantomimed as explorers seeking the Abominable Snowman. The yeti was really Jimmy Savile in a suit.
See this gallery for loads of great scans, including these 3 I yanked:
Needless-to-say, according to this website, "they reportedly grew to hate this section so much that they vowed never to undertake anything similar again."
-------
2) John Lennon created a trippy song for the White Album in 1968 called What's the New Mary Jane?. It features the line in the chorus: "She liked to be married to yeti". To hear the whole song, play this video (yeti line occurs about 40 seconds in):
Needless-to-say, the song was dropped and not used on the album.
Not Yeti Friday - Wright-Ward's Mystic Forest Dwellers
I previously blogged about Michal Wright-Ward (blog|flickr)'s honorary yeti.
Now she's working on a new set of plush creatures: The Mystic Forest Dwellers, which will soon be a available for purchase.
No yetis, but she is skirting the line. Here are a couple from the series:
