Not Yeti Eats Friday: Cookie Monster

The most famous yeti-like creature that eats is Cookie Monster.



He even coined the popular eating phrase "Om Nom Nom Nom", which became a huge meme, particularly when vocalized by cats in Internet photos.

When I first saw this 1977 article, I thought it was depicting a yeti:



But it's Cookie Monster.

Oh, black-and-white photographs. You never fail to fool and foil.

Yeti Eats Pop Tarts

Back in 2004, yeti was the mascot of PopTarts. They put him on their packaging. This was actually pretty pioneering of them. Later, many more companies would do the same, but I think PopTarts was the first.

What I didn't realize is they made a live-action commercial with the yeti. Watch it below or on Youtube.



Note how the yeti speaks in another language and has to have sub-titled translation. Six years later, Microsoft would use the same conceit in their IE8 commercials.

Yeti Eats Skiers (Yeti Arcade: SkiFree)

A very famous yeti of the electronic gaming world is the one from the 1991 computer game SkiFree. The object is to play a skier endlessly skiing down a slope, avoiding obstacles as they arise.

All is not as endless as it appears, however!

From Wikipedia:

"Once the player has completed his or her run, the game does not abruptly end. Rather, the player continues skiing until he or she encounters an 'abominable snow monster' who chases and attempts to eat the skier. From that point on, the player can ski until the monster catches and eats them."

The sight of this yeti has struck fear in many a player's hearts.

So much so that a lot of fan art has been generated:














With twenty years under its belt, the SkiFree yeti has definitely made its mark! I mean, this is one of the main reasons yeti is so strongly associated with skiing nowadays!
