Antennae! (6 years ago today...)
Today is the 6th anniversary of the announcement of the discovery of Kiwa hirsuta, the Yeti Crab.
We have had the pleasure of knowing of its existence for six glorious years.
To celebrate, here are some fan-created homages to that crazy-cool crustacean.

Beaks! (Outer Limits' Megasoid)
"The Duplicate Man" (1964) is an episode of the original The Outer Limits television show.

Beaks! (Yeti Arcade: Ice Climber)
Ice Climber (1985) for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) featured yeti enemies named Topi.

"Toppies come in two varieties: the seal featured in the Japanese release of Ice Climber and the small beaked yeti seen in the Western version. However, later Japanese versions of the game released on the GBA also used the white yeti appearances. Toppies have the ability to fill in holes in the floor with ice. To do this, a Topi scouts out opening in the floor, runs back to its cave, and reemerges pushing an icicle to fill in two blocks. This process repeats until no more openings on their layer of ice exist."
Sixteen years later, topi had a cameo in Super Smash Bros. Melee (2001) in 3D form:

Wings! (Winged Ape-Monstrosity)
In the Conan the Cimmerian story Queen of the Black Coast (1934, Robert E. Howard put a winged ape-monstrosity in some ancient ruins.

Not Yeti Friday - Adventure Time's Snow Golem
I love me the cartoon Adventure Time.
One of its characters, Snow Golem, is not a yeti as I had previously surmised.
Nope. He is a snowlem.

Nedi the Yeti
Hi,Thank you, Rob!
You actually posted one of my yeti prints a few years ago and I wanted to let you know about my new interactive children's book app for the iPad titled "Nedi the Yeti". I'm also releasing a new print in celebration of the iPad release - on sale now. It's an 11x14, 4 color screenprint printed on Coventry Rag 290 gsm 100% cotton. Yeti Arcade: Starcraft II Heart of the Swarm
A big game coming out later this year is an expansion of Starcraft II called Heart of the Swarm.
It will feature marauding snow beasts on an ice planet.

To me, they look less like yeti and more like part of the recent trend of large, four-legged monsters on ice planets... as seen in recent sci-fi flicks, Star Trek and Thor.
But the game designers themselves are calling the creatures "Yeti". "Space Yeti," to be exact.
Kotaku spoke with Blizzard senior artist Sam Didier in June 2011, and here's a quote from their interview:
As long as they don't start calling them "trolls".
You can see the little space yetis in this screenshot.
Final thoughts:
I wonder if there's a sort of insectifying trend these days in alien/monster design. They gave those yeti/trolls in Skyrim three eyes like a bug. Anybody got any other examples?

'This is the first time we didn't want a critter to just be a victim," Didier says. The Yetis will attack you, they'll attack your enemies. "We wanted something that was very aggressive.'
Didier would not confirm whether Space Yetis were a fourth playable race in a future StarCraft product. He's just laughed the notion off."
