Mancini Yeti

"Looking for Clues" by Hanna Mancini
Saw this image and thought:

"If ever I had a 'personal statement' in pictorial form, this would probably be it."

Not Yeti Friday - Gygor

I've posted about a couple of grotesques from the He-Man universe before: Grizzlor and Stratos.

But not GYGOR!

And there's a reason. He didn't actually exist until now.

Just this week the action figure for Gygor came out for you to BUY!

Yanked from Plastic & Plush

Gygor is so HUGE and so YELLOW that you will have to fork out quite a bit of moolah for this exclusive Action Figure of an Action Gorilla. Look at that axe! Is that obsidian?

Here's his packaging:

Note carefully his description: "Evil Fighting Gorilla"

Incidentally, this is all anyone knows about him. Just that he's evil and that he's fighting. And obviously, he's bright yellow. And also, he's yellowing. This, one has to presume.

I mean, look at him. It's not hard to imagine he was originally green and is now starting to ripen. Like a banana. Could he actually be a BANANIMAL (of Fabled Olde)?! I will leave further conjecture & debate on this matter to the esteemed voices in my head. One of them is a professor.

So Gygor was never actually a figure in the 1980's. They just made a prototype back then:

He has been improved.

FYI, there is a little blurb on the back of the new figure's packaging:

Shortly after the Great Unrest, Keldor was driven behind the Mystic Wall and Gygor, Lord of the Vine Jungle, led an army of beast men in a series of raids against the long forgotten Castle Greyskull, believing the many tales of its great and mysterious power. It was only through the combined powers of Oo-larr the jungle He-Man and The Goddess that Gygor was defeated and placed in a state of suspended animation. Eventually, Hordak returned to Eternia and the savage gorilla was freed by Evil-Lyn in her attempt to bolster Skeletor's forces agains the new Horde army. Gygor use his great strength to fight the Heroic Warriors.
Here's the thing: No one has any idea what any of this means. Like, "Oo-larr the jungle He-Man"? No one has ever heard of him.

Gygor, You enygma, you!

Anyway, current He-Man fans were excited to draw up artistic depictions of Gygor, who, you have to admit, kinda takes the cake being a giant yellow armored gorilla:

2-Bad fan art from the He-Man.org message board

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome, Gygor, to the world. You've made it, baby. Don't ripen too fast and turn brown. And become inedible. Also, don't peel. People might trip on you for comedic effect. No one wants that. Also, it might be considered ironic. You being a big monkey and all. Maybe they should have called you Evil Fighting Monkey-Banana.
Stay Fighting.
Yeti Mashup
A reader writes:
Dear Yeti Blogger,
I learned about the Marx Yeti through your site, and in the galling absence of any Yeti musical comedies on struggling Broadway stages, I created this mashup:
Thank you for keeping Yeti alive!
Best,
Pat
Thank you, Pat. This is a thing of loveliness. Oh the sweet juxtaposition.
Spore Yeti
The highly anticipated and sure-to-be mindblowing videogame "Spore" will be released in September. But in the meantime, the publishers have released a free Spore Creature Creator. It allows you to design a creature to look any way you want it to. On their site at the Sporepedia, you can submit your own creations made with the Creator. The game designers will then take your submissions and use them to populate the actual game.
The Creature Creator has been out for just a few days but already people are creating and submitting yetis! (they're also already making "sporn", but that's for another blog to discuss) And more yeti are being added daily. A sampling of what's been made so far appears below (I've credited the designers in each image's file name). Check out the Sporepedia and browse around to see what else people are concocting. It's great!
This is the closest thing I can think of to the YouTube of yeti. Users can create their own yeti and share them with each other. Once the game comes out, these creations will even walk around a shared universe and interact.
Wrestling Yeti
The Wrestling Association of Championship Krushers, also known as WACK, is a tv show for children that airs on Nickelodeon. It is a parody of professional wrestling shows, with strange characters such as anthropomorphic cheeses, squids, turkeys and bananas in contention with each other for a wrestling championship.
The Abominable Snowman is one of the wrestlers. In the WACK world, he is highly intelligent. Went to Yale and everything.
To learn more about WACK's yeti, check out these links:
  • The WACK Home Page with Character Bios
  • Spotlight video about the Abominable Snowman wrestler
  • Play a Fighting Game Online Using the Abominable Snowman
    Note: Make sure to select 'Abominable Snowman' for the head, arms, body, and legs. Otherwise, you will get some kind of freaky yeti/banana hybrid. Some kind of abominable bananimal.
    Stoner's Choice
    Scooby Doo and his friends from humanity, collectively known as "The Mystery Incorporated", now have their adventures serialized in a comic book for the youth crowd. Their Issue # 116 features a story entitled "Yeti Spaghetti", and this is its cover.
    Shaggy, Choose Your Fate:
    Death by Yeti
    Death by Frostbite (from those ungloved hands)
    Death by Inevitable Skiing Accident (such as collision w/ tree or outcropping)
    Death by Chocolate
    Death by Sniper
    Death by Zoinks (I don't know what that is, but you're always yelling it)
    Death by 16-ton Anvil
    Death by Bananimal (a cross between a banana and an animal)
    Death by Your Own Shadow
    Death by Stave
    Death by the "Great Dane Judas"
    All are equally likely candidates.
