The Yeti Wears Prada

Want to read something funny?

Read: The Yeti Wears Prada from Slate.com.

It's from the book, Sad Monsters: Growling on the Outside, Crying on the Inside by Frank Lesser, with illustrations (such as the one above) by Willie Real.

Yetis are Crap at Knitting

This magnet made me laugh. Tina Henry is responsible.

Ford Yetis

Andrew Ford paints custom nesting dolls.

He made some yetis!

I really like his description:
Perhaps only a double-rainbow can match the sheer beauty of seeing a herd of wild yetis grazing in an Alpine meadow. A little known fact about yetis is that they are surprisingly good at fishing. This should be taken with a grain of salt, however, for they are also good at lying.

Seifert Yeti

Yeti numba 2 by ~blackehawke on deviantART

Todd Seifert made this yeti for an electronic game. Fat or skinny? Either way, I really kind of like his profile - the way his head comes out of his shoulders.

Yults the Yeti Without a Soul

yults the yeti with no soul by *jouste on deviantART

------------

This is Yults. He's a yeti whose soul was stolen by the demon Drack the Despicable. Not having a soul means not "getting" any yeti stand-up comedy (very important in yeti culture), and that means being exiled from the grand yeti-capitol. Now Yults hunts Drack to reclaim his soul (and sense of humor), using the severed green hand of Drack around his neck to point the way.

Yults uses the traditional yeti weapon of the carnivorous vampire club, which is actually a plant that shoots thorns that eat blood.

Jouste, the artist behind Yults, creates lots of great character designs and comes up with funny descriptions and background info for each one.

Coffman Yeti

D.J. Coffman will draw anything on his site, Yirmumah, if'n you request it.

For "Will Drawing Anything" # 349, he was given the task by a "Jeffrey W" of drawing a radioactive telekinetic Yeti. Here is the result:

For me, the greatest mystery isn't how the yeti became radioactive or telekinetic, but rather why he's cooking his food. At first I thought that was the skeleton of a fish, and I was like, "Do yeti eat fish?" But then I realized it's probably a human skull.

Still, "Do yeti use camp fires?"

I guess radioactive telekinetic ones do.

700th Post!

This is the 700th post to this blog.

I have given the honor to the artist devil-cake for her piece entitled The Nice Yeti.

The artist's comment:

"Not all yetis are mean.
Sometimes they'll give you ice cream and be your friend.
But most of the time, they'll just want to eat you."

So true, devil-cake. So true.

To everyone: Thank you for reading and sharing the yeti love with me.

Yeti vs. Cyborg

I was in the mood for a "versus", which, for those of you who don't know, is an image that depicts yeti in contention (usually of a violent nature) with some other entity.

And then Lo! I encountered this piece of fine art from Geordan Moore (aka who_stole_my_bike on flickr).

Yeti is putting the magic halt on that cyborg.

Yes, you heard me, yeti can put on the magic halt.

Watch for that.

Monsterology Yeti

There is a popular series of books for kids called Ologies. There's Dragonology, Wizardology, Pirateology, Mythology, and Spyology. I would have totally gone ga-ga happy over these as a child. These were my absolute favorite subjects back then (okay still are). I should have been born 8 years ago; I would be in hog heaven right now with the amount of fantasy books that are out. Where were all these fantasy books when I was a kid and didn't enjoy reading anything because there was nothing out there to enjoy? In my day, the closest we got to Harry Potter was a lame choose-your-own adventure book about a cave with maybe a dragon in it... and that was only if you chose to go there!. Oops! I never made it to pg. 32. No dragon for you!!

But I digress.

The most recent Ology book, Monsterology has a section about the yeti, and here's a scan of the lovely illustration:

Some interesting, previously unknown information about the yeti is divulged:

  • Yeti's scientific name is Ursus saxum.

This means 'Rock Bear' in Latin. This actually makes sense considering that the word yeti is believed to be derived from the Tibetan word for "rock bear".

    ----
  • "It is disputed whether these denizens of the Himalayas are descended from bears or apes."

I had no idea anyone had ever disputed this.

    ----
  • "Hair colour changes from brown in summer to pure white in winter."

Ah-ha! That explains why we see both brown and white yetis!

    ----
  • "Forms of attack: Teeth, claws; crushing with arms."

Well, this is old news really. I just like the way they put it. And yeah, I would have added staves to the list, but that's just me.

    ----

    And the most revelatory:
  • "Female yetis can only be distinguished from the males by their habit of twisting their whiskers into elaborate curls."

    !!!!!!!

    ----

AMAZING the amount of new information Monsterology has unveiled for the field of Fictional Yeti Scholarship.

    Gold-Toothed Yeti like Soda Flowers

This is the yeti from a commercial for Fanta soda, which you can view in its entirety below.

When yeti is offered one to drink, it turns into a bouquet of flowers. Yeti is SHOCKED at first but becomes inexplicably pleased at the subterfuge.

Please note its possession of a single, gold tooth.

    Holmes Yeti

Erla by Tom Holmes is an ongoing online character-based illustration project. Erla, a little girl, is the central character and is friends with a yeti.

The yeti character is friendly and has warm armpits which he offers when needed.

Artist Stephanie MacIntyre made plush versions of Holmes' yeti! But they've sold out.

What I like about this yeti is that it's probably the most broken down, abstract, and simplified version of yeti you can get (while still maintaining the furriness attribute).

    Superman No. 266

Who is the toughest and roughest of Superman's foes?

If you guessed the yeti, you'd be right! He can withstand Kryptonian super-punches like they're nothing!

This August 1973 issue reveals the truth: Yeti has Abs of Steel. No, not steel... Diamond.

    Franny's Feet

Franny's Feet is a cartoon for PBS Kids targeting 4 to 7 year olds.

    In episode 103:

"Franny is transported to the frozen tundra, where she meets two little lost penguins that need help finding their colony. Along the way, they run into Eddy the Yeti. Eddy helps them find the penguin colony – and Franny helps Eddy make new friends."

    Note: The yeti is purplish.

    Metin2 Yeti

This is the yeti from the MMORPG Metin 2.

Not only does he have a horn on his head, he has them on his shoulders too.

    SHOULDER-HORNS!

    Yetisburg Update

Update on the Yetisburg card game from James Davis, Art Director for Paizo Publishing:

"Hey, here is the Rebel Yeti card from our new Yetisburg game. The
game is almost complete now, and we'll be sending it off to press in
    the next few days."

I like that the yeti changes sides if hit by friendly fire. You really can't blame those Canadian mercenary yeti for defecting.

    Darkstalkers' Sasquatch

Sure, his name is Sasquatch, but check out his white fur and all his many ice-based attacks.

    Dude looks like a yeti.

    Were you aware?

    He can...

  • ...surround himself with icy spires.

  • ...ride his opponent around like a sleigh.

  • ...fire a beam of frost.

  • ...breathe out a small, slippery pool of ice onto the ground.

  • ...swallow people whole, then belch them out encased entirely in ice.

For your viewing pleasure, footage of Homer Simpson beating him up.

And a snippet of the really, really bad American cartoon. The least of its crimes is that they changed his name and the name of his people to "Bigfoot".

    A Made Yeti

Look at this lovely yeti statue once on display at the Western Australia Museum.

It was part of an exhibition called How to Make a Monster: the art and technology of animatronics that ran back in 2006.

Here's the article where I found the photo.

And it is interesting to note:

This is perhaps the only depiction I've seen that has the yeti be BOTH white and brown.

(Kinda like a certain diminutive non-yeti hominid of no real relevance)

    The Children vs. Yeti

This commercial educates youth in effective yeti defense.

Eating Cheerios will give all children the "Go-Go-Power" (i.e. inhuman super-strength) to create giant snow balls to hurl at attacking yeti. Individual snow balls will do little to stop the unbridled fury of a Himalayan Man-Beast. But by using teamwork, the children will discover that combining the mass of two snow balls will weigh the yeti down, thereby causing it to crash through a layer of thin ice into frozen water, where it will be encased inside an ice cube. Thus, the yeti is immobilized and forthwith defeated. Al children rejoice in delight. Breakfast (and to a lesser extent, teamwork) save the day.

Please note that the yeti was disguised as a mountain before its surprise attack.

This is an attribute of yeti worth noting, so please do so.

Be highly suspicious of any mountains. Watch them carefully for signs of yeti-ness.

    Wrestling Yeti

The Wrestling Association of Championship Krushers, also known as WACK, is a tv show for children that airs on Nickelodeon. It is a parody of professional wrestling shows, with strange characters such as anthropomorphic cheeses, squids, turkeys and bananas in contention with each other for a wrestling championship.

The Abominable Snowman is one of the wrestlers. In the WACK world, he is highly intelligent. Went to Yale and everything.

To learn more about WACK's yeti, check out these links:

  • The WACK Home Page with Character Bios

  • Spotlight video about the Abominable Snowman wrestler

  • Play a Fighting Game Online Using the Abominable Snowman

Note: Make sure to select 'Abominable Snowman' for the head, arms, body, and legs. Otherwise, you will get some kind of freaky yeti/banana hybrid. Some kind of abominable bananimal.
