The Yeti from D.R.L.A.O.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was an American television show that ran from 1964 to 1968.

Despite the title, Episode 72 of the series, "The Abominable Snowman Affair", has little to do with yeti.

At the very beginning, the hero character, Illya Kullyakin, dons a terrible-looking yeti suit in order to spy on an evil dictator somewhere in the Himalayas. As soon as he is disguised as a yeti (did he honestly expect to spy effectively when dressed like that?), he is immediately shot by someone and unceremoniously rolls down a hill. Not a very auspicious beginning. The yeti suit is thereafter irrelevant for the rest of the episode (as near as I can tell).

(Screen captures taken from here.)

Does this yeti suit look familiar?

Why, yes it does! It's one of the Seven Faces of Dr. Lao!

In the 1964 movie starring Tony Randall as Dr. Lao, the Abominable Snowman is one of the attractions at a circus side-show. He's one of the disguises of Randall's polymorphic Asian stereotype!

So what's it doing here in The Man from U.N.C.L.E.? And with its face painted blue!

No prop budget, U.N.C.L.E.?

Yeti disguise? That's just weird. Love the "man in suit" posts. Nice work drawing the connection to Dr. Lao. I've been enjoying your blog for awhile. Keep up the great work!
