Neuburger Yeti

The 'Cute! of the Week' award goes to this set of stamps, The Big Monster Stamp Pack, on Etsy, by Sarah Neuburger.

There are stamps depicting "spooky dark tree, a creepy goblin, vampire and sweet smiling yeti."

I love seeing yeti being comfortably paired up with other scary Halloweeny monsters.

Look at him all grown up. He's making friends!

Not Yeti Friday - "Diamond" Jozu

There is really no reason this time. I haven't seen/read One Piece. I was surfing the Web and stumbled upon this dude with a diamond arm. I like him. He's a pirate.

How does he have a diamond arm like that? Because he eats a special fruit.

Apparently, he was already super strong before he ate the fruit. And now he has an Arm Composed Entirely Of Diamond?! This guy deserves our recognition.

Happy Friday.

Méliès Yeti

Loren Coleman's Cryptomundo blog has this fantastic scoop:

The First Frost Giant: CONQUEST OF THE POLE (1912)

You probably know film visionary and fantasist George Méliès for "A Trip to the Moon" (1902) and this iconic image:

But it turns out that in 1912, Méliès put an abominable snowman in a film! Well, it's a frost giant, but that's close enough. This is the first-ever appearance of a big hairy snow monster man in film history! And what a debut. A giant, crazy animatronic robot that fights people! Way ahead of its time.

Read the post to learn more. There's even footage!

Louie Yeti

The Family Yeti by Travis Louie
Acrylic on board
26”x 20”
The Wallace family has always had a Yeti in their home for as long as anyone can remember. No one knows for certain how long these docile hairy beasts can live. The current family Yeti is believed to be over 300 years old. It has become a tradition for each generation to have their portrait painted with the Yeti.
Part of new exhibition The Creature Show at the awesome Roq La Rue gallery in Seattle.

I recommend Travis Louie's art book of previous work: Curiosities.

Snowpocalypse & Yeti

A t-shirt says "I Survived the Snowpocalypse 2010" and there's a picture of a yeti.

P.S. Ever since 2009, whenever there's a blizzard in the U.S., we call it a Snowpocalypse or Snowmageddon.

Lockhart's "Year with the Yeti"

From a display in one of the shops at Universal Orlando's Wizarding World of Harry Potter; Photo taken by Dennis D

The title is actually mentioned in an offhand way in one of the Harry Potter books, so it's fun to see it made as a prop.

Did you see the yeti totally rocking it on Stephen Colbert's rendition of 'Friday' performance?‏

Like 3:30 in.

BIG NEWS!

Besides the low budget Snow Beast on SyFy Channel and the live-action version of Disney's Matterhorn ride with Nicolas Cage in theaters next Spring, we can look forward to two more, count em' 2!, separate computer animated movies starring yeti in the next year!

What is it with two different movies by two different studios coming out with the same premise at the same time? Antz and A Bug's Life... Illusionist & Prestige... Deep Impact & Armageddon... the list goes on and on. Somebody on Wikipedia has put together a rundown of such movies, but an even better list is TV Tropes' Dueling Movies.

So here's what we have to look forward to, computer-animated yeti-wise:

SNOWY
Summary: When Santa Claus takes himself, Mrs. Claus and all the elves on a much-needed vacation, he outsources Christmas night's activities to an alien and her team of drones. Little does Santa know that the alien he's hired is bent on invading Earth, using the North Pole as her base of operations. Santa's reindeer, left behind, have no one to turn to... until they realize they can call upon grouchy neighbor Snowy the snow monster. With his help, they are able to defeat the evil holdaylien and still get the presents delivered on time. Featuring the voices of Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Fred Arnison, and Chevy Chase. Slated for a December 2011 release.

ABOMINABLE ME
Summary: From the producers of Despicable Me, Ricky Gervais is the voice of Nubbs, last in a long line of Abominable Snowmen. As heir to Icy Cave Manor, he has a proud heritage of abominableness to uphold. He must do his duty to terrorize hikers, skiers, intrepid explorers, and the occasional yak. But when he accidentally saves a local boy from an avalanche, Nubbs' icy heart might just have to melt. Featuring the voices of Michael Caine, Michael Cera, and Anna Paquin. Slated for a Summer 2011 release.
